1 c. shortening (not liquid)
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 c. peanut butter
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cold water
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
3 c. all purpose flour

Directions:
Directions:
In large mixing bowl cream shortening, sugars, peanut butter, baking soda, water and vanilla; gently beat eggs in separate bowl, then add to mixture, mixing well; add flour gradually, mixing well; form small balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet about 2in. apart; make a crisscross pattern on top of each ball using the tongs of a dinner fork. Bake at 350º for approximately 10 minutes or until light golden brown but still soft (will be more firm when cool). Remove cookies with spatula onto wax paper to cool. Store in airtight container.

Variations: after removing from oven sprinkle with granulated sugar, or use colored sugars, or immediately press a Hershey's kiss into top of each cookie rather than make crisscross pattern.
