Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 pkg frozen Phylo Dough Sheets
1/2 cup of Butter, melted
1 cup Walnuts, chopped
2 - 3 tbsp Cinnamon, ground
1 Cinnamon Stick
5 cups Water
5 cups Brown Sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º
Make in glass ovenproof rectangular dish.

Melt butter on medium heat and set aside.
Put chopped nuts in a bowl and add ground cinnamon, stir to coat nuts with cinnamon.
Open thawed phylo, keep covered with a damp clean kitchen towel to prevent drying out. Cut or fold phylo sheet to fit into baking dish, it may overlap. Brush each sheet of phylo with butter and lay it in the pan to make layers (like lasagna).
Every 4th or 5th layer sprinkle nut and cinnamon mixture. Repeat layers until it just about reaches the top of the dish. Brush top generously with melted butter. Cut into small pieces either square or diamond shape, making sure the cut goes right through all of the pastry including the bottom layer, making deep wells in the cuts so the syru7p gets right to the bottom.
Bake until slightly brown, and layers are crisp and not soggy. Remove from oven.
While cooking, make syrup. In medium saucepan, add water, sugar and cinnamon stick, stir and bring to a boil. Let simmer for 15-20 minutes. Remove cinnamon stick, and allow mixture to cool completely. When both pastry and syrup are completely cooled, pour syrup over the pastry and let sit overnight.

Personal Notes:
This recipe is an absolute Nakeff family favorite. Aunt Helen would make it for special occasions. Of course the recipe was in her head, Cheryl painstakingly watched her mother make this and captured what she was doing for future generations.
