3 C flour

2 tsp cream of tartar

2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1 C butter or shortening

1 C packed brown sugar

1 C granulated sugar

2 eggs, beaten

1 tsp vanilla

extra granulated sugar for coating cookies

Directions:
Directions:
Mix flour, cream of tarter, baking soda and salt in a medium sized bowl. In a separate large bowl, mix brown sugar, white sugar and butter, then add eggs and vanilla and mix. Add dry ingredients to sugar mixture and mix well. Form dough into 1 inch diameter balls and roll in granulated sugar, completely coating balls. Place balls on ungreased cookie sheet 2-3 inches apart. Bake cookies at 400 F for about 10 minutes. Cookies will flatten as they bake. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
