2 c sugar
1 c shortening
4 eggs
1 c milk
2 ¾ c flour
2 t baking powder
½ t salt
2 T cocoa
1 T cinnamon
¼ t ground cloves
Pinch nutmeg
1 t fresh grated lemon rind
2 t lemon juice or vanilla extract
Chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Cream sugar and shortening together. Beat eggs in creamed mixture one at a time until well blended. Add milk, lemon juice, lemon rind. Mix well. Fold in dry ingredients, add in walnuts if desired. Pour batter into greased and floured bundt pan. Bake for 1 hour. After cooled and removed from pan, glaze if desired. (To 1-2 c confectioners sugar, add enough lemon juice to make a pourable glaze – pour over cake.
