Two cups brown sugar (packed)
1-1/2 cups butter or margarine
One cup sugar

Two eggs
1/2 cup water
Two teaspoons vanilla

Six cups Quaker Oats (quick or old fashioned)
Two cups flour
two teaspoons salt (optional)
One teaspoon baking soda

One cup Nuts (optional)
or
One cup Raisins (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350.
In large bowl, beat brown sugar, shortening and granulated sugar until creamy.
Add egg, water and vanilla, beat well.
Add combined oats, flour, salt, and baking soda.
Add nuts if using.
Mix well.
Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake 11-13 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
Remove to wire rack.
Cool completely.
Store tightly covered.
