1 pkt. active yeast
1 1/4 c. warm water
3 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. salt
2 tbsp. shortening, soft
1 c. warm milk
5 1/2 - 6 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Place first 6 ingredients in large mixing bowl in order given. Add flour gradually to make a stiff dough. Knead until smooth and satiny, about 10 minutes. Place dough in lightly greased bowl. Cover; let rise in warm place until doubled in size, about 2 hours.

Punch down dough. Cover; let rise 30 minutes. Divide dough in half. Mold into balls. Cover with bowl. Let rise 15 minutes.

Shape into loaves. Place in well-greased pans. Cover. Let rise until light and doubled in size, 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Bake at 375º for 35-40 minutes, or until deep golden brown. Remove from pans immediately. Cool on rack.
