Three cups fresh (5-6 medium) tomatoes, or a one pound can
1/2 cup chopped onion
Two whole Cloves
One teaspoon salt
One teaspoon Sugar
1/8 teaspoon White Pepper

Three Tablespoons Butter

Two Tablespoons Flour
1-1/2 cups Milk
One cup Half & Half

Directions:
Directions:
Peel, core and chop fresh tomatoes and combine in saucepan with next five ingredients. Cover and simmer over moderate heat until tomatoes are tender. Remove cloves.
If a smooth soup is desired, whiz through blender or food processor until smooth.
In a saucepan, blend butter and flour, add milk and half & half. Cook stirring constantly until mixture is thickened and smooth.
Add hot tomato mixture gradually, stirring constantly.
