½ tsp soda
½ cup buttermilk
¼ cup butter
1 egg
⅔ cup white sugar
½ tsp. vanilla
1 cup flour
1 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. sugar
1½ cups apples

-- Brown Sugar Sauce --
¼ cup brown sugar
½ tbsp. cornstarch
pinch of salt
½ cup hot water
1 tbsp. butter
½ tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Butter an 9 x 9 inch dish. Mix soda in buttermilk and let stand. In a large bowl mix the butter, egg, sugar and vanilla together. Alternate adding the buttermilk and flour into the egg mixture. Stir until just mixed.

Peel, core and slice apples and place evenly in bottom of dish. Mix sugar and flour and sprinkle over apples. Pour batter over apples. Bake at 350º for 30 - 35 minutes. You can substitute the apples for blueberries, peaches, rhubarb or a combination.

Brown Sugar Sauce: Mix first 4 ingredients on top of stove over medium heat and bring to a boil. Remove from heat, add butter and vanilla. Serve warm over pudding.
