3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 tsp. soda
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º. Melt shortening and let cool. Add sugar, molasses and egg, beat well. Sift dry ingredients and add to molasses mixture and mix well.
Roll into 1 inch balls and place on a cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes.

This was my dad's favorite cookie. I usually frost them with a butter cream frosting. But they are good even plain.
