1 C. Butter
1/2 C. Crisco
1 C. Sugar
1 C. Brown Sugar
3 Eggs
4 C. Flour
2 Tsp. Cinnamon
1 C. Walnuts
1 Tsp. Baking Soda
1 Tbsp. Hot Water

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and Crisco. Add sugar and cream well. Add eggs one at a time beating well afyer each addition. Sift together flour and cinnamon. Dredge walnuts with part of this. Mix baking soda with hot water. Add flour, soda mixture and floured nuts to creamed butter.Pack in deep pan lined with waxed paper. Chill overnight. Cut cookies into 2 x 2 squares. Bake at 375º about 10 minutes.

This recipe is an old one. Grandma Guilar made these at Christmastime. It begins with gathering your own AMerican black walnuts in October. It's easier to remove the hulls when they get squishy. Let the walnuts dry in a place where the squirrels can't cart them off. Or go to your favorite store and buy them.
