SIFT TOGETHER IN A BOWL:
3/4 cup sifted all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Set aside

CREAM TOGETHER:
1/2 cup softened butter or margarine
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 egg

Add flour mixture and 1/2 tsp vanilla and beat until smooth.

FOLD IN:
1 1/2 cups oatmeal
1/3 cup chopped maraschino cheeries
1/4 cup chopped English walnuts

Shape dough into two rolls, wrap in wax paper and chill several hours or overnight.

Slice rolls approximately 1/4 inch thick and place on ungreased baking sheet. (These cookies spread very far during baking.) Bake in a moderate over (350º) about 10 minutes.

You can skip rolling dough in wax paper. Leave dough in a bowl and refrigerate until chilled. Spoon out and flatten on cookie sheet. Return bowl to refrigerator between spooning out. (A silpat baking sheet works well with these cookies)
