1 - 3 pound beef chuck roast
1/4 c. flour
2 T. veg. oil
4 c. beef broth
1 T. minced garlic
1 T. Worcestershire sauce
2 t. salt
3/4 t. pepper
1/4 t. ground allspice
2 bay leaves
4 peeled carrots, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
4 med. potatoes
1 c. frozen pearl onions
3 T. flour
3 T. water

Cut beef into 1 inch cubes. Place beef and 1/4 c. flour in a plastic bag, seal bag and shake to coat.

Pour oil into a Dutch oven: place over med-high heat until hot. Add beef and garlic until all sides of beef are brown.

Add 4 cups of beef broth and the next 5 ingredients; bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat, simmer 2 hours or until beef is tender. Remove and discard bay leaves.

Add carrots, celery and potatoes to beef mixture; cover and simmer 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Add pearl onions.

Combine 3 T. flour and 3 T. water, stirring well; stir into stew. Bring to a boil, stir until thick.

Serve with warm biscuits.
