2 c. white sugar
1 c. molasses
1 c. shortening (can use bacon fat)
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
2 heaping tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Pinch salt
4 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar, molasses and shortening together until light and fluffy.
Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well.
Add remaining ingredients, mixing well after each addition.
Make small balls and flatten out with wet finger tips.
Bake 375º about 12 min.
10 min. for gooey cookies.

This is a Depression era recipe. Substituting bacon grease for butter allowed Grama to save on the cost of butter. Polly said it worked quite well!
