1-2/3 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/3 cup real butter
1-1/4 cups buttermilk
3/4 cup mashed sweet potatoes (fresh, cooked, or canned) -- not yams
1/3 cup firmly packed light brown or dark brown sugar.

1. Preheat oven to 400 F. Grease a large baking sheet.
2. In a large bowl, stir together both flours, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.
3. Cut butter into flour until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal.
4. In medium bowl, stir together buttermilk, sweet potatoes, and brown sugar until sugar is dissolved.
5. Stir buttermilk mixture into dry ingredients until mixture forms a soft dough.
6. Drop 12 heaping soup spoonfuls onto prepared baking sheet.
7. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden on top.
Cool 15 minutes on rack before serving.
