16 slices white bread, crusts trimmed
8 slices ham
8 slices sharp or mild cheddar OR Swiss cheese
6 eggs
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. ground black pepper
1/2 t. dry mustard
1/4 c. minced onion
1/4 c. finely minced green bell pepper
1-2 t. Worcestershire sauce
3 c. whole milk
Dash Tabasco sauce
Crushed cornflakes or bread crumbs
1 stick butter, melted

Coat a 9-by-13 inch glass baking dish with butter. Cover entire bottom of dish with 8 slices of the bread. Layer Canadian bacon or ham on top of bread. Top with slices of cheese. Place remaining bread slices on top, making a sort of sandwich.

In a large bowl, beat together eggs, salt, and black pepper. Adde mustard, onion, bell pepper, Worcestershire sauce, milk, and Tabasco; mix well. Pour mixture over bread layers and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, sprinkle top with cornflakes. Drizzle with melted butter. Bake, uncovered, at 350º about 1 hour, or until brown on top. Let sit 10 minutes before cutting and serving. Serve with fresh fruit, if desired.
