1 pkg Bakers Sweet German Chocolate
2 cups sugar
1 cup buttermilk
4 eggs separated
2 1/2 cups of flour
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup hot water to dissolve chocolate - this is an old recipe before microwaves.
1 cup crisco (I use corn oil)
1 tsp soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar, oil and beaten egg yolks. Add 3/4 cup milk alternating with flour. Dissolve soda in remaining 1/4 cup milk, salt and melted chocolate. Then add egg whites that have been beaten stiff and vanilla. Bake 30 minutes in 350º oven. Make 3 large layers.

Icing
Cook until thick
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 egg yolks beaten
1 cup half & half cream
3/4 cup shopped pecans
1 1/2 cups Angel Flaked Coconut
1 1/2 stick of margarine

Ice cake while hot.

This was a recipe that my mother always said was the best German Chocolate Cake she ever had. She always baked it for us at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
