Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1/2 c shortening or butter
1/2 c sugar
1 egg yolk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 c flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
3 tbsp milk (or a little more if needed to make dough stick together)
2 oz unsweetened chocolate, melted

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening or butter and sugar; add yolk and vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk. Divide dough in half, and to one half, mix in melted chocolate. On a large piece of waxed paper, roll vanilla dough in a rectangle approximately 1/8" thick. On a separate piece of waxed paper, roll chocolate dough to the same dimensions as the vanilla dough, then place the chocolate dough on top of the vanilla dough, waxed paper side up. Carefully remove waxed paper from the chocolate dough; if tears, patch with your fingers. Roll dough up starting from long side. Be sure to gently press the roll as you go to eliminate air pockets. Wrap dough in waxed paper, and then in plastic wrap. Chill for at least 3 hours, preferably longer. Remove from refrigerator, and thinly slice roll crosswise for form round cookies. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets at 375º for approximately 10 minutes.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
These are a little tricky--the dough is kind of dry, and it is important to get the two layers of dough to stick together before refrigerating. But the results are worth the effort. Recipe can be doubled, but divide dough into two rolls. Cookies should be removed from the oven just as they begin to brown.
