"A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. "Much obliged," said he, pushing the plate aside; "I am not accustomed to take my wine in pills."--Jean Antheleme Brillat-Savarin, The Physiology of Taste

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 cup Milnot or Cream
1 egg
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup Crisco
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
In a large mixer bowl, combine all the ingredients and mix until it forms a ball. Then remove from the bowl and place in a cup towel and place the dough in your refrigerator until chilled. Remove from the refrigerator and take a small amount (about 1 teaspoon) and roll into a circle (dough should be thin). Use a tablespoon of your favorite filling. Fold over and close edges using a fork. These pies may be deep fried or just fried in a skillet with a small amount of cooking oil. Fry until golden brown.

NOTE: Keep dough chilled until ready to use. If dough gets warm, it will not hold together when trying to make pies.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
As a kid, one of the favorite fundraisers for our school was fried pies. My mom, Lanelle Leggett and her high school friend, Kay Curry, would make them for basketball games, livestock shows and just about anything that we did to raise money. They were always a huge hit.
