2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup sugar
2/3 cups buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup cocoa
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup hot strong coffee
Directions:
Directions:
Stir flour,salt and cocoa together three times. Cream shortening,add sugar gradually and cream thoroughly. Add eggs one at a time, beat about one minute after each egg is added. Add dry ingredients alternately with combined buttermilk and flavoring. Add coffee liquid and stir until batter is smooth. Bake in moderate oven ( 350) about 30 minutes or until cooked.
