Puff Shells
1/2 cup Crisco shortening
1 cup boiling water
1 cup flour
4 large eggs
1 tsp. salt
Pastry Cream
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1 tbsp. flour
2 cups whole milk
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1 tbsp. butter
1 large egg

Directions:
Directions:
Add shortening to boiling water. Add flour and stir vigorously until a ball forms in center of pan. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each egg. Drop by spoon onto greased cookie sheet. Bake in a preheated 450º oven for 15 minutes, then reduce to 350º oven for 30 minutes more until golden brown. Mix on top of a double boiler the sugar, salt, cornstarch and flour. Stir in the milk and bring to a boil over low heat. Once it reaches a boil stir constantly for about 3 minutes until mixture starts to thicken. Remove from heat and stir a little of the hot mixture into the slightly beaten eggs. Then blend into the hot mixture and continue to cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. The filling will now be thickened and add butter and vanilla. Allow to cool thoroughly. Cut open shells, fill with cream, sprinkle with confectionery sugar.
