Put 1 garlic toe & a good head of dill on the bottom of a glass gallon jar. Pack with whole small pickles. In middle of jar,add 1 more garlic toe and dill. Finish packing jar with pickles. Add 1/2 tsp. alum and a garlic piece.

Brine: Bring to a boil: 3 1/2 pints of water, 1 pint of white vinegar and 1/3 c salt.
Pour hot brine over pickles. Add 2 slices of rye bread and seal. Put in sun for 3 days and then put in the refrigerator.
