Six cups flour
1 cup shortening
4 eggs
1 tbsp. vanilla
6 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. milk
2 cups sugar

Sugar Icing:
1 stick butter, melted
1 tsp. vanilla
1 box powdered sugar
Milk for consistency

Directions:
Directions:
Combine shortening, sugar, eggs, vanilla and milk. Mix well with electric mixer. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Mix well.
Slowly mix the dry mixture into the wet mixture with an electric mixer. This batter will get very thick.
Roll out a portion of the dough on a flour covered counter top or pastry board to 1/4 inch thick.
Cut out cookies using cookie cutters.
Place on cookie sheet sprayed with Pam.
Bake at 300º 10 to 12 minutes. Do not over bake or they will not have a cake texture.

Mix together butter, vanilla and powdered sugar. Add milk for spreading consistency. Ice warm cookies. Let cool slightly and sprinkle with candies.
Add food coloring to have different color icing.

Leslie, this is the recipe for the cookies your mom and I made for the Saint Barnabas Christmas and Valentine's parties. They were always one of your favorites as well as your class mates. I received this recipe from Bill's Aunt Pat, who had kept it in her Italian Family for years. Ii is a tradition in the Canino family to bake and ice these every Christmas, even to this day. I hope you enjoy!
