1/2 cup Crisco or oleo
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 cup flour
2 Tbsp cocoa
1 tsp salt
1 Tbsp vinegar (reserve)
1 tsp baking soda (reserve)
1 sup buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla
2 - 2 ounce bottle red food coloring

1 Creamy White Frosting recipe
(see below)

Directions:

Sift together flour, cocoa, and salt; set aside. Cream Crisco and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Beat until fluffy. Add sifted dry ingredients alternating with buttermilk. Add vanilla and food coloring. Beat well. Mix together baking soda and vinegar. Fold in soda and vinegar mixture. Bake at 350º for 30 minutes if two round pans have been used, 35 minutes for oblong pan.

Creamy White Frosting
1 cup milk
1/4 cup flour
cook until thick, stirring at all times let cool
1 cup sugar
1 stick oleo (butter)
1 cup Crisco
Beat until fluffy. Add to first mixture and beat until ready to spread. Cover with red coconut.
To color coconut; just add a couple of drops of red food coloring to a bowl of coconut and stir until well coated.
