Braided Christmas Roll Recipe

2pkg of yeast;
warm water to soak yeast;
1t sugar to proof yeast;
1C buttermilk;
2 eggs;
1C softened butter (2 sticks);
5C flour;
1C sugar;
2t baking powder;
2t salt;
1C chopped pecans;
1C chopped candied fruit;

Optional Glaze: mix together:
1C powdered sugar;
1T milk

Directions:
Directions:
1) Put yeast, warm water and 1t sugar in the bottom of mixing bowl. Stir till yeast is dissolved and shows activity (bubbly).
2) Transfer to electric mixer and attach dough hook to mixer.
3) Add butter, sugar and eggs to bowl and mix coarsely with blender set on low.
4) Keep mixer going and add baking powder, salt and 3C of the flour.
5) When fairly well mixed, start adding the remaining flour, chopped nuts and candied fruit.
6) Dough should be soft and slightly sticky. Continue to knead with dough hook for another 5 minutes.
7) Turn out dough on to a floured board and roll into 24" by 6" shape.
8) Cut into 3 long strips 24" by 2" strips for braiding.
9) Braid strips loosely and connect ends to form a circle or a crescent shape.
10) Let braided dough rise 1 hour in a warm place.
11) Preheat oven to 375 F. Bake sweet roll for 45 minutes until golden brown.
12) If desired, frost the roll with a thin glaze while still warm.
