Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups Evaporated Milk
3/4 cup Water
3/4 cup Vegetable Oil
1/2 cup Sugar
2 tsp. Salt
6 Egg Yolks
1/4 cup Instant Potatoes reconstituted with water
3 pkg. Dry Yeast; dissolve in 3/4 c warm water
and 2 Tbs. sugar in a 2 cup measure. Allow it to
"work" until it raises to the top of the cup.
7 cups Flour, may need more to make stiff dough

Directions:
Directions:
Combine the milk and water and heat to lukewarm, add oil, sugar, egg yolks, mashed potatoes, salt in a large mixing bowl. Add yeast after it has "worked."

Add flour, a few cups at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add enough flour so dough is not sticky to the touch.

Transfer to a very large greased bowl, cover and let raise until double in bulk. Make dough into balls the size of ping pong balls. Place about 3 inches apart on a greased baking sheet and brush dough balls with melted butter. Let raise then make a depression in center of each ball. When they raise again, poke the depression down again and put filling in each depression.

Use cherries, apricots, poppy seed, and/or prunes for filling. Allow to raise again. Bake on top shelf at 450 degrees for 4-6 minutes. Brush with butter while warm from the oven.

Personal Notes:
At one time, Grandma helped bake kolaches for the annual Kolache Festival at St. Ludmila's Church in Cedar Rapids. This, however, is not the recipe they used but it is the recipe I use and Grandma always enjoyed them.
