Directions:
Prehead oven to 350º
Grease bottom of square pan, 9 x 9 x 2 with shortening.
Melt butter and chocolate in saucepan, stirring constantly until the chocolate is completely melted. Cool slightly.
Beat sugar, vanilla and eggs with high speed mixer until creamy. Add chocolate mixture on low speed. Slowly blend in the flour. Stir in the nuts. Spread in pan.
Bake 40-45 minutes (depending on oven) or until the brownies pull away from the sides of the pan and a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on wire rack. Cut into 2 inch squares.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
My husband won't eat brownies from a mix, but loves these. They are not extremely sweet since they are made with unsweetened chocolate.

For a lower fat version substitute 1/3 of the butter for 1/3 cup of applesauce, 1/2 cup baking cocoa for the chocolate squares and 1 egg plus 4 egg whites for the 3 eggs. Decrease nuts to 1/2.
