2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
About 1 c. water

Stir together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually stir in enough warm water to form a crumbly dough; then work dough with your hands untl it holds together, Turn out onto a board and knead until smooth. Divide into 12 pieces and shape into a smooth ball. Cover lightly with plastic film and let rest about 15 minutes. For each tortilla, flatten a ball into a 4 or 5 inch patty, then roll into about a 9 inch round. rolling from center to edge. Turn tortilla often,stretching the dough as you carefully peel it off the board. As each is shaped, place on a preheated, dry, heavy griddle or heavy 12-inch pan over medium heat. Almost immediately tiny blisters should appear. Turn tortilla and start pressing a wide spatula directly on top of it. Press gently, but firmly. Turn and press till golden brown. Stack in folded towel in plastic towel till soft. Serve warm or freeze.

In the 1950's, Aunt Zelma and Aunt Nona took this recipe from California to Kansas, where they had a taco booth at the county fair at Phillipsburg. Tacos were new to the American Heartland at that time and their version was a big hit. In the 1950's, the plastic film, used in the recipe, could not be bought in grocery stores, so Aunt Zelma got hers from the meat packing plant where she worked.
