1 c. softened butter, 1 3/4 c. sugar, 4 eggs, 1 tsp. vanilla 2 3/4 c. sifted flour, 2 1/4 tsp baking powder, 3/4 tsp. salt, 3/4 c. milk, 1 c. chopped walnuts.

Directions:

Heat oven to 375º. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition, about 2 min. for each egg. Add vanilla. Beat in sifted and combined dry ingredients alternately with the milk. Sprinkle bottom of a well greased and floured tube pan (10 in.) with the chopped nuts. Pour in the batter, spreading evenly. Bake until golden brown and a cake tester comes away clean about 55 min. Cool thoroughly before slicing.
