4 eggs, 1 lb dark brown sugar, 1 c. sifted four, few grains salt, 1/2 tsp. ground allspice, 1/4 tsp. cloves, 2 tsp. cinnamon, 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 2 c. chopped pecans, powdered sugar to dust on squares.

Beat eggs lightly. Add sugar, and beat again. Fold in flour sifted with salt, spices, and baking powder. Lastly, add nuts. Pour into two greased and floured 9 x 9 x 2 in. baking pans. Bake 20 minutes at 350º. Remove; dust with powdered sugar and cut while hot into squares. Let remain in pan until cool. The squares should be moist, not dry or hard.
