Orange Slice Cake:
1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
3 1/2 cups flour
1 lb candy orange slices, finely chopped
1 lb dates, finely chopped
2 cups pecans, finely chopped
1 can flaked coconut
2 tsp orange rind

Cake Glaze:
2 cups confectioners sugar
1- 12 oz can frozen orange juice

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time. Mix soda and buttermilk and add alternately with 1 3/4 cups flour. Mix together remaining 1 3/4 cups flour with candy orange slices, dates, pecans, coconut and orange rind. Mix all together and bake in a greased, floured tube pan for 2 hours at 300º. Cool. Invert onto a serving plate. Prick top. Spoon and brush glaze evenly over the top and sides.

To Make the Glaze:
Bring to boil 2 cups confectioner's sugar and one 12 oz. can frozen orange juice. Pour hot glaze over the cake. Let cake rest overnight.
