7 cup flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp butter
2 tsp salt
1 egg
vegetable oil, as needed
warm water, as needed

Directions:
Directions:
1. Mix flour, egg, sugar, butter and salt with hands in a bowl.

2. Keep adding warm water until you reach a dough like consistency.

3. Knead dough thoroughly.

4. Roll into 2 separate circles.

5. Cut into strips and stretch into thin ropes (about two feet in length).

6. Roll strips into spirals (like a cinnamon roll).

7. Roll out spirals with rolling pin into flat circles.

8. Heat skillet and put thin layer of vegetable oil in pan (keep a layer of oil in pan at all times).

9. Drop flattened dough in and let simmer (flip when color changes to a light golden hue).

10. Fold in half- let brown and flip to the other side.

11. Enjoy!

Chapati is like a dense pita or naan bread. Traditionally an Indian dish, but this is the Tanzania version I had all the time in Bagamoyo.
