Mammy's Butter Roll Recipe

2 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
3 scant tsp baking powder (smooth off well)
1/4 tsp soda
1/3 c shortening
1/2 c buttermilk
3 sticks butter
sugar
cinnamon - optional

Directions:
Directions:
Stir together first 6 ingredients to make a soft dough - add more buttermilk if needed. Put flour on board, knead dough slightly (don't over knead), cut dough into 3 equal parts.

Roll one section out thin. Spread with 3/4 stick butter and sprinkle with 3/4 c sugar. Roll dough up (like jelly roll). Repeat with other two dough sections. Place in 12x8x2 inch pan. Take remaining butter and spread over all rolls. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake 375º about 40 minutes until brown.
