2 c flour, sifted
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp shortening, rounded
1 c milk
1 whole chicken

Directions:
Directions:
Cook chicken, retain broth and remove from bone. Place broth and chicken in a large pot. Add additional broth if desired.

For dumplings, sift together flour, salt, and baking powder. Cut in shortening . Add milk and mix as for biscuits. Divide dough into two portions and roll out like pie pastry. Cut in strips 3/4 inch wide and 3 inches long. Stretch pieces as you add them to the chicken and broth. Replace lid and allow to boil - don't look for about 10 minutes. Cook about 20-30 minutes total.
