1/2 c. Butter
1/2 c. Shortening
1 c. Sifted Confectioner's Sugar
1 Egg
11/2 t. Almond Extract
1 t. Vanilla
21/2 c. Sifted Flour
1 t. Salt
1/2 t. Red food coloring
Extra Granulated Sugar
Crushed Candy Canes

Preheat to 375*

Mix together thoroughly the shortening, butter, sugar, egg, almond extract and vanilla. Sift together and stir in the flour and salt. Divide dough in half and tint one half red. Roll 1 t. Of each color dough into 4" strips. Put the strips side by side and press gently together. Then twist like a rope curving the tops when you put on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 9 minutes. Sprinkle with sugar, candy cane mixture while cookies cool but still hot.

Make complete cookies one at a time so that the dough does not dry out. I really like these. Kids can easily do these!
