Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 lb beef, lean ground
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1 can tomatoes, diced
1/4 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp pepper, fresh ground
3/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp basil leaves
1-2 cups tomato juice or soup
1¼ cup macaroni

Directions:
Directions:
In a large skillet (preferable that old black one you stored in the attic), reduce onion a bit, then stir in beef. Stir and brown. Bacon grease gives the dish a more traditional flavor; like Mama use to make.

Drain excess fat if necessary. Stir in tomatoes including liquid and remaining ingredients, stirring to break up tomatoes. Heat to boiling…

Pour in enough tomato juice to give a very runny consistency. The macaroni soaks up more juice than you would think as it cooks. After stirring for a minute, mix in the macaroni. Reduce heat and simmer covered, stirring occasionally, until the macaroni are tender; about 20 minutes. A small amount of water can be added if necessary, but we keep extra tomato juice handy for increasing liquidity.
