Directions:
Stir sugar, syrup and water over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Cook, without stirring, to 260º on candy thermometer. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Continue beating while pouring hot syrup in a thin stream into egg whites. Add vanilla; beat until mixture hold its shape and becomes slightly dull. (Mixture may become too stiff for mixer.) Fold in nuts. Drop mixture from tip of buttered spoon onto wax paper.
Variations: Omit chopped nuts and top each with a pecan half. Add food coloring.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
At Christmas, Nana & Grandpa would drive from Salt Lake to Idaho Falls. There was always the question, 'How was Malad Pass?' Upon their arrival, it was exciting to unload boxes of homemade goodies and sample the treats that would be part of our holiday desserts. I thought Nana's divinity candy was magical! I believe this Betty Crocker recipe was the one she used; it certainly captures the magic that I remember.
