Directions:
Blanch cabbage (either in boiling water, or in microwave)
Pull leaves off of cabbage head and layer them in a clean 5 gallon pail or crock.
Sprinkle pickling slat on each layer. (2 inch layer or 3 heads)
Press each layer down to make them tight.
There should be enough liquid to cover the leaves. If not, pour boiling water over them.
Put salt on top.
Put a plate or cover and something heavy on top to hold the leaves tight.
Leave for 3 or 4 days.
Remove from pail, put in bags and freeze. Do not rinse the leaves until ready to use them.I remember the smell in the house when mom was making these leaves. The smell wasn’t great, but the cabbage rolls were!
