17 1/4 -oz pkg frozen puff pastry, thawed
8 -oz. can almond paste
1/2 c. unsalted butter, melted
1 c. crushed vanilla wafers
1 egg
1 t. almond extract
1+ c. marschino cherries, halved
1 egg, beaten

Directions:
Directions:
In 1-quart bowl, combine all ingredients except pastry, cherries and 1 egg. Mix until blended. On lightly floured surface, place sheets of pastry side by side to make a 19" x 10" rectangle. Pinch together pastry to seal seams. Spread mixture to within 1/2" of edges; sprinkle with maraschino cherries. Roll, starting with long end, jelly roll fashion; form into ring or shape like candy cane. Place on 15" x 10" jellyrolll pan with sides. Wiht sharp knife, make cuts about two-thirds of the way through dough at 2" intervals. Brush with beaten egg. Bake for 20-30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pan; cool completely on wire rack.
