Wet ingredients
2/3 c. Shortening
1/2 c. Sugar
3/4 c. Molasses
1 egg

Dry ingredients
3 c. Flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugar. Blend in molasses and 1 egg.

Mix together dry ingredients. Mix together wet and dry ingredients until well blended. Chill for 1 hour. Roll flat and cut using cookie cutter. Bake at 300º for "a few minutes".

Ice when cool. To stay true to the tradition, make equal number gingerbread men and gingerbread girls.
