For the crust, cream the following'
1/2 c. butter
1/3 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla
Blend in 1 cup flour, pat dough onto the bottom and 1 1/2 inches up the sides of a 9 in springform pan.

Combine 1 (8 oz) pkg. softened cream cheese with 1/4 cup sugar. Mix well, then add one egg and 1/2 tsp. vanilla. Mix until smooth and pour into pastry lined pan.

Peel and slice 4 medium apples.
Toss apples with 1/3 c. sugar and 1/2 tsp. cinnamon. Spoon apples over cream cheese layer.

Sprinkle 1/4 cup slivered almonds on top.

Bake at 450º for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 400º and continue baking for 25 minutes.

Loosen torte from rim. Cool completely before removing rim completely.
