Snickerdoodles Recipe

1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 c. sifted flour
2 t. cream of tartar
1 t. soda
1/2 t. salt

4 T. sugar
2 t. cinnamon

1. Cream together shortening, sugar and eggs.
2. Sift together flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt.
3. Combine 4 T. sugar and cinnamon in small bowl.
4. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture. Chill dough.
5. Roll dough into balls the size of small walnuts. Roll balls in cinnamon sugar mixture.
6. Place balls on ungreased cookie sheet.
7. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.

This recipe won a blue ribbon for me when I was a kid in 4-H. Still a great variant on the sugar cookie.
