Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 pounds ground beef
1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
1 (15 oz) can petite diced tomatoes
1 diced onion
5 Tbsp. chili powder
1 Tbsp. cumin
2 cloves minced garlic
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp pepper
salt, if desired

Directions:
Directions:
In skillet, saute onion in oil until tender. Add 1 pound ground beef and brown and crush very fine. Drain and place in large pot. Brown last pound of meat, drain and add to pot. Add tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Fill both cans half full with water to collect remaining juices and add to pot. Add chili powder, cumin, garlic, oregano, and pepper. Mix well and allow to simmer. Best if simmered on low on the stove for a couple of hours or in crockpot on high. But it's even good when only simmered 20-30 minutes. Serve with cheese, chips etc.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Our family has a tradition of eating Mexican food on Christmas Eve...my Pepaw used to make chili (he was a cook in the Army). No one has his recipe but this is a good alternative. I always double this recipe...leftovers are just as good!
