Core tops of 5 large tomatoes, cut each in half and then slice each half into 5 slices. Cut one large onion in half and then thinly slice each half to make half rings. Add 1/4 cup full strength red wine vinegar + 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil + 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper + ˝ teaspoon salt + 3/4 teaspoon dried oregano + ˝ teaspoon sugar.

Toss, cover, and marinate in refrigerator 3 hours. Will make its own juice. Serve with Italian bread
