1 lb. bacon or turkey bacon, diced & cooked
1 lg onion, finely chopped
1 (8 oz) can mushrooms
1/4 c flour
1 pint half & half cream
12 oz. sharp cheddar cheese, grated
3 cans cut green beans, drained
dash tabasco
2 tsp soy sauce
salt & pepper to taste
1 Tbsp Worcestershire
1 can sliced water chestnuts, drained
1/2 c slivered almonds
1 (6 oz) can French fried onion rings

Directions:
Directions:
Dice & cook bacon in a large skillet. Drain all but about a tablespoon of drippings. Sauté onions & mushrooms in drippings. Add flour, mix well with whisk. Stir in half & half and thicken. Add cheese and stir until smooth. Add remaining ingredients (including cooked bacon) with the exception of the last two. Mix well. Place mixture in buttered 9x13x2 casserole. Top with almonds. Bake at 350º for 20 minutes. Remove from oven & top with French fried onion rings. Bake an additional 5-10 minutes.

I've given out this recipe so many times. It's a staple on our Thanksgiving & Christmas table. It comes from a Louisiana cookbook purchased on our honeymoon in July, 1995.
