1 Large green cabbage
1 egg, 600gr. ground beef
1 bun or 3 slices of bread (day old)
1 large onion
Salt -Pepper-Paprika
Bacon and Mustard are optional
Kitchen string

Bring water to a boil in a large pot.
Cut core out of cabbage.
Simmer cabbage until the leaves are
Easy to remove ( do not overcook)
Take cabbage out of pot and let cool.
Separate leaves and sort by size.

Soak bun or bread in water

Cut onion and bacon into cubes (garlic optional)
Fry until opaque then add the beef
Taste with salt,pepper and paprika

Squeeze water out of bun or bread and
mix with cooled beef mixture.
Add 1 egg slightly beaten.
adjust spices.Arrange cabbage leaves with large
leaves outside and smaller on the inside.
Fill cabbage leaves with meat mixture about
2 tbsp at the time. Roll up the cabbage leaves
and fold in the sides to make sure, that no meat can escape.

Brown cabbage rolls from all sides in the
frying pan you used for the onion & bacon.
Transfer to a large -wide pot with lots of space,
for all the cabbage rolls to touch bottom (Ideal)
For brown & tasty gravy use Beef Broth and
cook 1 or 2 cut up tomatoes extra in it.
Let simmer for 30-45 min. until cabbage is tender.
Take cabbage rolls out and use cornstarch or flour
to thicken gravy. Good with Potatoes or Rice

I have tried the Canadian way but we like the darK
beefy gravy better. My Friend Ilona recommended this one. Thanks, we do enjoy it very much.
