2C. cherries drained
1/2t. salt
1T. butter
1c. Pet Milk
1c. sugar
1/4c. corn starch
1t. vanilla
2 eggs separated

Directions:
Directions:
Stir in sugar with 1c. Pet milk with 1c. water. Place over boiling water (if you don't have a double boiler, just put larger pot under smaller pot with the milk/water/sugar). Cook for 20 minutes after water begins boiling. Stir often and remove from heat. Stir in 2 egg yolks and return to cook for 2 more minutes. Remove from heat and cool. Bake pastry shell and cool. Put in strained cherries and then cover with the cooled custard. Beat egg whites stiff but not dry. Beat in 1/4c. sugar into the whites and spread on top of pie and bake in slow oven 300º until whites are pretty and brown.
