1 ½ c. sugar
2 ¼ c. flour
1 tsp. salt
½ c. shortening
3 tsp. baking powder
2 eggs
1 ½ tsp. vanilla
1 c. milk
Directions:
Directions:
Sift dry ingredients (sugar, flour, salt and baking powder) in bowl, add shortening, 2/3 cup milk and flavoring, blend 2 minutes. Beat at medium speed. 1/3 cup milk and 2 eggs 2 minutes. Bake at 350º for 45-50 minutes.

Caramel Frosting (easy):
Melt ½ cup margarine in a large sauce pan. Blend in 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar and ½ tsp. salt. Cook over low heat 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Add ¼ cup milk, continue stirring until mixture comes to a boil. Remove from heat. Blend in 2 ½ cups sifted confectioners sugar, gradually add ½ tsp. vanilla. Then add a small amount of cream if necessary.

Caramel Icing:
2 c. light brown sugar, firmly packed
1 c. granulated sugar
2 tbsp. light corn syrup
¾ c. milk, regular or Pet
¼ c. spray ?
¼ c. butter
¼ tsp. salt
Mix all ingredients in a large pan. Bring to a full, rolling boil slowly. Boil 2 minutes. Cool. Beat.
