1 3/4 c. oatmeal,
1 1/2 c. flour,
1 c. brown sugar,
1 tsp. baking soda,
3/4 c. butter,
1/2/ tsp. salt,

Date Filling:

3/4 c. dates, cut in small pieces,
1 c. white sugar,
1 c. water,
3/4 c. chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all dry ingredients together and work in butter thoroughly until crumbly. Pack one half of mixture in bottom of pan and press down with your hand. Cover with date filling and then add the remainder of the crumbly mixture. Bake at 375º for 20-30 minutes.

Date (or apricot) filling:

Boil dates, sugar and water until thick. cool and add nuts.

For apricot bars use 1 1/2 c. chopped apricots and only 1/3 c. sugar.
