Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 pkg. dry active yeast
1/4 c. warm water
1/4 c. sugar
3 T. butter
4 1/2 c. sifted flour
3 T. shortening (Crisco)
1 egg
1 tsp. salt
2 c. milk

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Scald milk and dissolve sugar, salt, butter and shortening in it. When lukewarm, add flour and beat well with wooden spoon or mixer on low speed.
When you are halfway through mixing flour, add yeast and egg. Knead dough for 5 min.. Place in greased bowl in warm place (80º) and cover. (I use the oven that I preheated, then turned off.) Let rise until double in bulk. Dump out onto floured board, push it down, then let it rest for 5 min. Try not to use too much extra flour as it makes them heavy.
Make into any shape rolls you want. Can be rolled out and biscuit cut. Dip them in melted butter and put into pan, butter side down.
Preheat oven to 400º - 425º and bake 10 min. or until light brown.
