3/4 C butter, softened
1 C sugar
1 large egg
1 t vanilla extract
(You can add 1/4 t of peppermint extract but we don't)
2 1/4 C all purpose flour
red and green food coloring

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º

Cream butter and sugar. Add the egg and beat well. Stir in extract. Gradually mix in the flour until combined.

Divide the dough into three bowls - add green to one, red to one and keep one as is. Roll out small pieces and twist with another color to make candy cane shaped cookies. Pinch at the ends. Cook on an ungreased cookie sheet for 8-10 minutes.
